Dear Friends of MSI:

Students, faculty and researchers at the Marine Science Institute are tackling issues that address a diverse array of challenges affecting oceans around the world, while contributing to our understanding of our ‘backyard’: the Santa Barbara Channel. You can make it possible for them to find solutions by supporting their efforts. Student support is essential to MSI’s ability to attract the best and brightest!

Annual Gifts:

Support for the annual operations of the Marine Science Institute serve a critical need and are applied by the Director where the need is greatest. Gifts make possible everything from student, faculty, program and facility support to lab equipment and programming funds for outreach programs.

Endowment Gifts:

Gifts to the endowment can enable us to permanently associate a donor's name with selected spaces, faculty chairs and student fellowships. Endowed gifts may be pledged over as many as five years, and donors may select from a range of naming opportunities. An important endowment opportunity is the naming of the building where the Marine Science Institute resides on Lagoon Road overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Capital Gifts

Current capital gift opportunities include those at our new ocean science education building, next door to the Marine Science Institute where future scientists will encounter high tech, hands-on activities that represent the work of the scientists at MSI in Outreach Center for Teaching Ocean Science (OCTOS).

Currently more than 20,000 school children annually, in grades kindergarten through high school are being inspired by MSI’s outreach programs and OCTOS will provide a permanent home for these programs while doubling their numbers. In addition, professional development for current science teachers, and coordinated programs with the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education are in the pipeline. Watch this space for naming opportunities at OCTOS.
