Informatics and Cyberinfrastructure

Technological advances to monitoring the environment have led to the acquisition of vast amounts of data, yet limitations on how those data are managed restrict their accessibility and use. MSI’s EcoInformatics Center (EIC) was established to address this situation by making what is already known about the environment available to potential users, from students and scientists to resource managers, regional planners, and policy makers. The EIC involves both the technical and human aspects of data acquisition, sharing, preservation, and utilization. Informatics researchers are actively engaged in developing, testing and deploying cutting edge technologies and software to facilitate the integration, analysis and preservation of ecological and environmental data.
