The FISHsort Lab at the University of California, Santa Barbara features a large-particle cell sorter that sorts objects as large as 1mm diameter (including live and preserved organisms) by size, fluorescence (green, yellow, red), optical density, or any combination of these parameters.
This cell sorter is a COPAS Plus model manufactured by Union Biometrica. COPAS stands for Complex Object Parametric Analyzer and Sorter.
We operate the cell sorter on a recharge basis, please see the pricing page.
The COPAS Plus has been used to sort zooplankton, Drosophila (embryos, L1 and L2 instar larvae), mosquito (embryos and first, second and third instar larvae), pancreatic islets (mouse, rat & human), and Arabidopsis seeds.
We sort zooplankton (Mytilus californianus, Mytilus galloprovincialis/edulis/trossulus, Balanus glandula/crenatus, Pollicipes polymerus, and Chthamalus dalli larvae) for our own work.
