My primary research interests lies in marine biogeochemistry and microbial ecology. I direct my efforts towards understanding elemental cycles (in particular nitrogen and carbon) in marine environments and how they are impacted by microorganisms. On the other hand, I investigate both the abiotic and biotic controls on microbial communities in marine environments.
As a Simons Postdoctoral Fellow in Microbial Ecology, my work focuses on the impact of marine fungi on marine nitrogen and carbon cycles. My doctoral research investigated marine nitrogen cycling in oceanic oxygen minimum zones and salt marsh sediments. Since arriving at UCSB, I have been working on understanding the methanogenic consortia of anaerobic fungi and archaea using genomics and cultivation.
