Abstract

The purpose of this research grant is to continue on-going collaborative efforts to monitor the temporal and spatial dynamics of rocky intertidal populations of black abalone in southern California using Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network (MARINe) protocols. The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is the principal awardee and will administer a subaward to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). A goal of this research is to document spatial and temporal changes in populations of Haliotis cracherodii (black abalone) which is a federally listed endangered species. Importantly, surveys conducted as part of this project will occur at historical research sites with pre-existing black abalone population data.
