Here we propose to analyze within-core SR variability from a compilation of >250 ocean sediment cores to (1) improve our understanding of sediment accumulation processes (e.g., changes between Holocene and Last Glacial Maximum), (2) provide guidance for realistic parameter settings for cores from different oceanographic settings to use in existing age modeling software packages, (3) implement an updated version of the BIGMACS software with better handling of unevenly spaced age constraints, and (4) evaluate the impacts of age uncertainty on reconstructions of millennial-scale climate variability.
