The proposed work aims to improve our understanding of the Biological Carbon Pump (BCP) under low oxygen concentrations ([O2]). Dr. Alyson Santoro will lead a research group responsible for making sinking carbon flux measurements and in situ respiration measurements during a research cruise to the Eastern Tropical North Pacific. She and her team will be responsible for aspects of ordering, cruise planning and drifting array preparation for the cruise to support these measurements. The team will also conduct bacterial production measurements at sea from the water column and on sinking material recovered from the RESPIRE traps. Following the cruise, the team will lead the submission of particulate organic carbon and dissolved organic carbon samples to the analysis facility.
