This project contains the following objectives:
Obj.1. Continue a long-term, continuous time series of MidDepth data collection using BRUVs in the oldest region of the CA MPA network, a region that has shown the strongest effects of MPAs to date and is co-located with multiple other MPA monitoring program.
Obj. 2. Expand monitoring to additional MPAs in Southern California to broaden the generality and the scientific community involved in BRUV research and allow comparisons with other projects funded through this call.
Obj. 3. Conduct analyses that assess MPA performance, accounting for the effects of habitat and environmental conditions on key fisheries species, non-fisheries species including invertebrates and species of concern
Obj. 4. Create a documented workflow and protocols for processing BRUV imagery and data for future collaborations, allowing for a BRUV network to expand thoughout California.
Obj. 5. Enhance equity and inclusion in MPA monitoring by training the next generation of California’s environmental professionals.
Obj. 6. Continue to provide expert knowledge on MPA assessment, climate effects and design of monitoring to enable OPC and CDFW to further the development of long-term monitoring plans and priorities.
