Abstract

This project has three main goals: (1) forecasting the future of bleaching and recovery of coral reefs in Moorea by synthesizing our existing data, (2) examining how nutrient pollution in the lagoon extends to the outer reefs of Moorea and makes them vulnerable to increases in macroalgae, and (3) catalyzing the local relationships built via our past ZFF funding to help communicate our science and foster science education. Moorea is home to the University of California Gump Research Station and the site of the NSF-funded Moorea Coral Reef Long-Term Ecological Research Program (MCR LTER), of which PI Burkepile is the Lead Principal Investigator and Co-PI Adam is an Associate Investigator.
