Abstract

Our goal is to leverage our detailed California MFA to understand the key drivers of plastic consumption and fate in order to develop best practice guidance for assessing plastic flows. A secondary goal of this undertaking is to understand how this information can inform global decision making around addressing plastic pollution, e.g. via the United Nations Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution. This will be achieved through direct engagement with various international efforts to address plastic pollution. The resulting information will be compiled into a best practice guidance document for plastic MFAs and will also be used to inform strategic engagements by TNC CA’s Plastics Strategy.
