The Environmental Market Solutions Lab (emLab) is an interdisciplinary team of economists and natural scientists based at UC Santa Barbara dedicated to bringing market-based solutions to the world's most pressing environmental problems. Previously known as the Sustainable Fisheries Group (SFG), emLab builds upon SFG’s robust research portfolio of market solutions for oceans and fisheries by expanding to tackle a wider array of pressing challenges in land and freshwater, climate and energy, and people and poverty. By combining economic principles, ecological insights, and big-data analytics, emLab delivers cutting-edge research and innovative policy solutions to better align conservation and economic incentives to improve the health, well-being, and resilience of communities around the world.

emLab is a collaboration between the University of California Santa Barbara’s Marine Science Institute, Department of Economics, and Bren School of Environmental Science and Management.
