This project will provide a first look at the spatial wind field structure over long time scales, with coincident observations of coastal ocean currents. Our work will illustrate the potential of these observations via analysis of datasets taken from areas with high potential for orographic effects and small-scale structures within the wind field. This effort will develop a thorough understanding of the spatial and temporal resolution of the observations, as well as their error characteristics, through validation and verification with preexisting in situ observations. The planned efforts will produce these observations, document the generally applicable method, and demonstrate their capacity to advance knowledge of the interactions of the coastal ocean and atmosphere.
