Ranjit is a faculty member in the Environmental Studies program and the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management at the University of California Santa Barbara. He is also a faculty scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. At UCSB, he leads the Clean Energy Transformation Lab and is a Research Associate at the Environmental Markets Lab (emLab).

Ranjit’s research lies at the intersection of energy, environment, and economics, specifically in low-carbon energy systems, clean energy access, and electricity markets. His interests include strategies, policies, and market mechanisms for environmentally sustainable and socially equitable low carbon transitions in the electricity and transportation sectors. He also studies technologies and incentives for increasing access to clean energy services in developing regions and low-income communities.

Before joining UCSB, Ranjit was an ITRI-Rosenfeld postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He holds a PhD in Energy and Resources from the University of California at Berkeley, master’s degrees in Engineering from Humboldt State University and University of Texas at Austin, and a bachelor’s degree from the Government College of Engineering Pune, India.
