Research on ecology and evolution provides critical insight into how environmental factors influence an organism’s genetics, physiology and behavior, their interactions with other species and ultimately the ecological functions of ecosystems and the services that they provide. Researchers at MSI strive to develop the scientific understanding of ecology and evolution needed to address pressing environmental issues in marine, freshwater and terrestrial ecosystems including changes in biodiversity and ecosystem function, the spread of invasive species, parasites and disease, and ecosystem conservation and restoration.
